The Restaurant (*2): run run run of the mill

Did you think I will leave you hanging with no fine dining? We began the year by visiting one of the five of Zürich’s 2* restaurants, The Restaurant. We could talk about how self aware you have to be, to name your restaurant The Restaurant but why would we, really?

A Brief History of Everything a.k.a. Zug, really?

As the title suggests, it is time to address our biggest misfortune a.k.a. moving to Switzerland. This was 100% the least pleasant move in terms of EVERYTHING but we got there in the end. And we ended up ending up in Zug, a place I would not wish on an enemy.

no idea bar: a cocktail bar that gives

I had my eyes on this bar for a while following their post-holiday reopening updates. They looked like a legit cocktail bar and it turned out to be just right. Minimalist décor, intimate atmosphere and excellent, attentive service elevated no idea bar beyond my expectations.

Xaloc Tapas Bar: lo siento, perdóname, España

Matas is solely responsible for this. There is no way I would ever suggest going to a tapas restaurant in Zug of all places. But these days I am very easily convinced to try new things and since we will live here we just HAVE TO KNOW and now we now.

Widder Bar: old school bar with new school people

When you arrive to a new city, you have to start somewhere and our cocktail journey started at Widder Bar. Hailed as another one of Zürich’s institutions, Widder Bar is a weird mix of the old school and the new. Did it end up impressing us though? Let’s see.

Meating: back to the sad past

Our move to Switzerland does not end with Zürich. The goal is to find an apartment in Zug, the third smallest canton in the country. To this effect, we went on a scouting trip and decided to stop for dinner. A dinner that veritably took us 10-20 years back.

    Scappatella Milanese (Part II)

Our weekend escape to Milan continues with more food and, finally, some misses and near disasters, oh, and also cultural activities! We ended up having some indulgingly good times with our F&B, a visit to Teatro alla Scala and then some. A perfect weekend getaway.

    Scappatella Milanese (Part I)

After a week spent in Zürich doing bureaucratic stuff we felt like we needed an escape and at 3:30 hours away by train Milan proved to be a handy destination. Milan is not my favourite city in Italy but beggars can’t be choosers, can they? At least we ate well!

Wirtshaus Galliker: please save me from myself

I will take a deep breath in, I will hold it, I will exhale and I will introduce you to my first encounter with Swiss food. Needless to say, it was not good. Do you want salty? Because this is how you get salty. But ask yourselves first, are you really ready for it? Leggo.

Tasca La Farmacía: a quirky eatery in barrio Castellana

If you thought we are done with Spain just because I have moved to Switzerland, you would be sorely mistaken. I still have a few months-worth of Spanish eating and I am more than happy to share the places we have visited over the summer months of 2022.
