Xaloc Tapas Bar: lo siento, perdóname, España

Matas is solely responsible for this. There is no way I would ever suggest going to a tapas restaurant in Zug of all places. But these days I am very easily convinced to try new things and since we will live here we just HAVE TO KNOW and now we now.

Xaloc Tapas Bar, Poststrasse 13, 6300 Zug

Just to let you know how dire the F&B situation in Zug is, let me introduce you to a Spanish tapas bar rated 4.8 on Google Maps. I know, Google Maps ratings are shoddy but but but… how am I supposed to know which places are utter shite and which ones are decent enough if not by such ratings, oh, wait…

Pimientos de padrón
Morcilla

If you have read any of my previous blogs entries from Switzerland, you might remember that food here tends to be on a rather saltier side. Do you want to know how salty these pimientos were? They were parboiled in the waters of the Red sea no less. It was practically impossible to eat them because with every bite any level of hydration your body’s had just up and vanished.

Morcilla was the only edible food out of all of these and that is probably because they do not make it in house. Was it a great morcilla? No. Was it decent enough to consume? Yes, yes it was.

Tortilla de patatas
Croquetas

Oh, if only I could relate to you the sadness of this tortilla and the utter and frankly astounding disbelief it caused when we tasted it. You remember a little thing called Knorr Aromat? THIS WAS SEASONED WITH IT. KARL! KARL! KARL, THE GODDAMN TORTILLA CAME SEASONED WITH KNORR AROMAT. And that was not some little dusting on the top, no no. The seasoning was used while cooking for a thorough Knorr Aromat distribution.

I do not even want to address the croquetas because they were beyond saving. Just a sad pathetic excuse for one.

Ieva’s seal of approval is sobbing quietly in the corner. This sadness is slowly and surely draining its will to live.

  1. I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen something as sad as these croquetas. Actually I’m out of words. This is the case when even Knorr Aromat won’t help. Sorry.
