Widder Bar: old school bar with new school people

When you arrive to a new city, you have to start somewhere and our cocktail journey started at Widder Bar. Hailed as another one of Zürich’s institutions, Widder Bar is a weird mix of the old school and the new. Did it end up impressing us though? Let’s see.

Happy kiddos

It was our first Friday in Zürich, we had just landed the day before and we were in a dire need of finding a decent cocktail bar. Just because. After a little bit of research we decided to call on Widder Bar. We ended up queueing for a little bit but eventually got two seats at the bar without any problems.

Widder is an old hotel bar patched up with a bit of a makeover. It was busy and loud, with the clientele ranging from an after work business crowd to some Eastern European influencer chicks. Boisterous and packed, it was definitely not an intimate experience.

Round 2

The cocktails were actually quite decent and they did taste all right, although all four of the drinks we had from the bar’s signature collection ended up on more of a classical side. The drinks ranged anywhere between 20 CHF to 25 CHF, so that seemed reasonable in comparison to the quality of the drinks and prices we got used to in Singapore (and to my Singaporean friends, no, these cocktails were no match to Manhattan Bar or Employees Only).

Would I go again? Probably. The crowd inside did not inspire me much but the drinks made up for it in the end. Not an intimate venue by any means but definitely good if you want to be in an actually lively atmosphere for a change.
